Review by a Growth Engineer

My verdict: powerful but too expensive for what it is.

Clay is well made, but it's too expensive. You can have much more flexibility and results by mixing Apify and n8n if you have a bit of technical background.

It remains a good solution for Growth teams that don't have a 'Tech' profile in-house and want power without coding. But the cost adds up quickly.

What I like less: the astronomical price. A serious campaign can cost hundreds of dollars in credits. For technical teams, it's economic nonsense.

My advice: if your team doesn't have a tech profile and time is worth more than money, Clay can make sense. Otherwise, look at n8n + Apify + BetterContact/Dropcontact - you'll have more flexibility for much less.

Why add it to your stack?

Clay is the most powerful enrichment spreadsheet on the market. 75+ data sources, native AI formulas, automatic waterfall... It's technically impressive.

But the price is astronomical. If you have a technical profile on the team, n8n + Apify offer more flexibility for much less. Clay makes sense for growth teams that don't have tech and want turnkey solutions.

What you can do with it

  • 1Build enriched prospect lists with 10+ data points
  • 2Personalize emails with AI formulas based on enriched data
  • 3Create automatic waterfall enrichment workflows
  • 4Sync enriched leads with your CRM
  • 5Qualify leads with multi-source criteria

What it does

  • 75+ integrated data sources
  • Native AI formulas (Claude, GPT)
  • Intuitive spreadsheet interface
  • Automatic waterfall enrichment
  • Native CRM integrations
  • Workflow templates

How much?

Starting at $149/month

Starter at $149/month (5000 credits), Explorer at $349/month (25000 credits), Pro at $800/month (50000 credits), Enterprise on request. Credits are consumed differently depending on sources. It adds up quickly.

The detailed verdict

Do I really need this?

Clay is not indispensable if you have technical skills. You can replicate 90% of the features with n8n + Apify + BetterContact/Dropcontact for much less.

But for growth teams without tech who want no-code power, Clay is hard to beat. It's the price of simplicity.

Does it play nice with my stack?

Integrations are the strong point. 75+ data sources, native CRM integrations (HubSpot, Salesforce), export to all formats. The API exists for custom work.

The automatic waterfall that tests multiple sources and keeps the best result is particularly well done.

Is it easy to pick up?

Getting started takes a few hours. The concepts (sources, enrichment, formulas) are learned progressively. Templates help get started.

Documentation is good, support is responsive. For a non-technical person, it's more accessible than building a custom stack.

Is the UX any good?

Clay's interface is well designed. The spreadsheet format is familiar, AI formulas are powerful, templates speed up getting started. It's clearly designed for growth marketers, not developers.

The credit tracking dashboard is clear. The learning curve is real but reasonable.

Is it worth it?

Clay's value for money is hard to justify. $149/month minimum, and credits go fast depending on sources used. A 1000 enriched leads campaign can consume hundreds of dollars.

For technical teams, n8n + Apify + dedicated enrichment tools cost 3-5x less with more flexibility. Clay makes sense if the team's time is worth more than the subscription.

What I like

  • Growth teams without tech profile who want turnkey no-code power
  • Multi-source enrichment with automatic waterfall and AI personalization
  • Companies that prefer to pay more to save time on configuration

What I like less

  • Tight budgets as pricing starts at $149/month and climbs very quickly
  • Technical teams for whom n8n plus Apify is more cost-effective and flexible
  • Companies that want total control over their enrichment workflows
