Captain Data

French B2B data automation and enrichment platform that pivoted to a data provider role. The model change has made the tool very expensive with less pricing transparency. Powerful but hard to justify against alternatives like BetterContact or n8n plus Apify.

Review by a Growth Engineer

My verdict: a tool that has lost its appeal after the model change.

Captain Data was a great tool for automation workflows, but it's become very expensive. The pivot to a 'data provider' model changed the value proposition.

I haven't gone back since the model change: they pivoted from workflow automation to a data provider role. Personally, I see much less interest today for my use cases.

What I like less: price has significantly increased, pricing transparency has decreased, and value compared to alternatives is no longer as clear.

My advice: before committing, compare with alternatives: BetterContact for phone enrichment, Dropcontact for French emails, n8n + Apify for custom workflows. You'll probably find better for less.

Why add it to your stack?

Captain Data was a great tool for automation workflows, with an intuitive interface and effective templates. But the pivot to a 'data provider' model changed everything.

The tool has become very expensive, and the value proposition is no longer as clear. For enrichment, BetterContact or Dropcontact are often better suited. For workflows, n8n + Apify offer more flexibility.

What you can do with it

  • 1Enrich prospect lists with multi-source data
  • 2Automate LinkedIn data extraction
  • 3Build integrated prospecting workflows
  • 4Sync enriched data with your CRM
  • 5Scrape specific web sources

What it does

  • Multi-source B2B data enrichment
  • Automation workflows (limited)
  • Native CRM integrations
  • LinkedIn and other sources scraping
  • API for custom integrations
  • Workflow templates

How much?

Starting at On quote

Opaque pricing, on quote. Prices have significantly increased with the pivot to data provider model. Expect several hundred euros per month minimum.

The detailed verdict

Do I really need this?

Captain Data is no longer indispensable. The pivot to a data provider model puts it in direct competition with more specialized and often cheaper tools.

If you had adopted Captain Data for workflows, look at n8n + Apify. For enrichment, BetterContact or Clay are often better suited.

Does it play nice with my stack?

CRM integrations exist (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive). The API allows custom workflows. Webhooks work for automations.

But the integration ecosystem is less developed than more established tools. Investment in integrations seems to have slowed.

Is it easy to pick up?

Getting started remains accessible. Workflow templates allow quick starts. The interface is intuitive for non-technical users.

Support is decent. Documentation exists but isn't always up to date with the latest product evolutions.

Is the UX any good?

The interface remains decent. Workflow creation is visual, templates help get started. The tracking dashboard is readable.

But the overall experience has lost coherence with the pivot. Some features seem neglected in favor of the data offering.

Is it worth it?

Value for money has degraded with the model change. Prices have significantly increased, and pricing transparency has decreased.

For most use cases, cheaper alternatives exist: BetterContact for phone enrichment, Dropcontact for French emails, n8n + Apify for custom workflows.

What I like

  • Teams with significant budget looking for a premium data provider
  • Integrated multi-source enrichment without building a custom stack
  • Companies that prefer an all-in-one solution rather than separate tools

What I like less

  • Tight budgets since pricing has become very high after the pivot
  • Teams who liked the old more flexible and transparent workflows model
  • Those who need maximum flexibility and prefer building their own stack
