Hootsuite

The historic social media management platform for large teams with complex approval processes. The interface has aged poorly and pricing is high compared to modern alternatives. A dinosaur still alive but hard to recommend.

Review by a Growth Engineer

My verdict: the dinosaur of social media management.

Hootsuite remains a standard for large companies, but the dated interface and high pricing make it a difficult choice to recommend for modern teams. It's a tool from another era surviving on its installed base.

What I like less: the interface has aged poorly. Pricing is hard to justify against modern alternatives. And if you focus on a single platform (LinkedIn or X), specialized tools do better for less money.

My advice: if you're in a large company with approval workflow and corporate reporting needs, Hootsuite can be justified. Otherwise, look at Buffer for simple multi-platform, or Taplio/Tweet Hunter for LinkedIn/X specifically.

Why add it to your stack?

Honestly, I only recommend it for large companies that need complex approval workflows and corporate reporting. Otherwise, there's better and cheaper on the market.

What you can do with it

  • 1Manage dozens of social accounts with multi-level approval processes
  • 2Generate detailed reports for management and stakeholders
  • 3Coordinate a marketing team with granular roles and permissions
  • 4Plan content over several months with a shared editorial calendar

What it does

  • Centralized multi-network management
  • Scheduling and editorial calendar
  • Approval processes and workflows
  • Advanced reporting and analytics
  • Team management and permissions

How much?

Starting at 99

Starting at 99 euros/month for the Professional plan. Enterprise on quote.

The detailed verdict

Do I really need this?

For large companies with corporate needs, it's an established standard. For the rest of the market, it's easily replaceable by more modern and cheaper tools.

Does it play nice with my stack?

Integrates with all major social networks and many marketing tools. The ecosystem is mature and stable, that's one of the few strong points.

Is it easy to pick up?

Getting started takes time. The interface isn't intuitive, many features are hidden in submenus. Expect training for new users.

Is the UX any good?

The interface is heavy and dated. You can tell it's a product that has aged without a real overhaul. Compared to newcomers like Buffer or specialized tools like Taplio, it's painful to use daily.

Is it worth it?

99 euros/month minimum, and it goes up quickly with advanced features. For this price, the interface deserves to be more modern. Value for money isn't great compared to alternatives like Buffer or specialized tools.

What I like

  • Suited for large marketing teams with complex approval processes
  • Enables centralized management of numerous social accounts
  • Advanced corporate reporting meets enterprise needs

What I like less

  • Too expensive and overkill for startups and SMBs
  • The dated interface frustrates those who want something modern
  • Specialized tools do better if you focus on a single platform
