Cron (Notion Calendar)

Notion's calendar app (formerly Cron) with an elegant Notion-style interface and bidirectional sync. Functionally equivalent to Google Calendar with advanced keyboard shortcuts. It's pretty but doesn't add anything more than Google Calendar for most uses.

My verdict: it's a gadget, I prefer Google Calendar.

Notion Calendar (formerly Cron) has a beautiful Notion-style interface. It's elegant, well designed, pleasant to use.

But apart from the UI which is pretty, I don't see any major value in it. It's an elegant wrapper, but functionally, it doesn't add anything more than Google Calendar for my use.

What I like less: it's purely cosmetic. Features are identical to Google Calendar, with fewer third-party integrations. Notion sync can be confusing.

My advice: if you're a die-hard Notion fan and want everything in the ecosystem, try it. Otherwise, stick with Google Calendar - it's the standard and works perfectly.

Why add it to your stack?

Notion Calendar (formerly Cron) is elegant and well integrated into the Notion ecosystem. The interface is beautiful, keyboard shortcuts are practical, Notion sync works.

But functionally, it doesn't add anything more than Google Calendar. It's an elegant wrapper on your existing calendar. If you're not in the Notion ecosystem, there's no reason to use it.

The detailed verdict

Do I really need this?

Notion Calendar is not at all indispensable. It's a calendar - there are dozens. Google Calendar does the same job, is more universal, and has more integrations.

It's a 'nice to have' for Notion fans, not a critical tool.

Does it play nice with my stack?

Integration with Notion is the differentiator. You can link events to Notion pages, see your Notion tasks in the calendar. For intensive Notion users, it's practical.

But third-party integrations are more limited than Google Calendar. Not as rich an ecosystem.

Is it easy to pick up?

Getting started is immediate if you come from Google Calendar. You connect your accounts, everything syncs. Shortcuts require a bit of learning.

Notion sync can be confusing to set up at first.

Is the UX any good?

UX is the strong point - the interface is beautiful and consistent with the Notion ecosystem. Animations are smooth and keyboard shortcuts practical.

But ultimately, it's cosmetic. You do exactly the same things as on Google Calendar, just with a different font. Beauty doesn't replace functionality.

Is it worth it?

It's free, so hard to criticize the price. The question is rather: how much time to invest in changing tools for marginal added value?

If you already use Notion intensively, native sync may have value. Otherwise, it's not worth the switch.

What I like

  • Notion fans who want everything in the same ecosystem with a consistent UI
  • Those who appreciate an elegant interface and advanced keyboard shortcuts
  • Intensive Notion users who want to sync their tasks with the calendar

What I like less

  • Those who want pure efficiency as Google Calendar does the same in a more standard way
  • Users who need a rich and mature third-party integration ecosystem
  • Teams that aren't in the Notion ecosystem and have no reason to change
